It’s the question we hear most frequently. And it’s one we take seriously here at Salon Lucid as the Best Salon in Redondo Beach:

Our clients who ask it really want to know whether they have crossed a line. Let’s face it; no one wants to be seen as “trying too hard.”

Well, my darling goddesses, let us honor the sacred-yet-unspoken agreement between us:

You ask us the hair questions; we tell you the hair truth. So, are you too old to wear your hair long?

Absolutely not…provided it’s the right long hair.

Here are three easy guidelines to keep in mind:

1.Long, but not too long.

Long hair draws the eye down,

and we want the focus on your face! Keep the length about 2-3” past your

collarbone and you can’t go wrong.

2.Change is your friend.

We all have that person we know that is still wearing her hair in the same style that she had in high school. Rarely is the same look that worked when you were in your twenties, work in your 40’s. “You don’t have to do drastic changes” says Tammy Izbicki, Owner of Salon Lucid. “As the best salon in the South Bay, it’s our job to give you guidance to look your very best!”. Try adding a soft side swipe bang or some warm caramel highlights around the face!

3.Frame the face with shorter layers or bangs.

And that’s all there is to it. Not too long, frame the face, and change it up now and then: three little rules with big, big impact.

(Of course, the most important rule of all is to simply forget the rules if they don’t appeal. That is the inviolable right of being what the French call une femme d’un certain age! And I don’t know about you, but at Salon Lucid we think that’s exactly as it should be.)
